Steering Applications Engineer Jan. 27, 2020


Provide Electric Power Steering Tuning/Application Engineering support to Hyundai-Kia Motors Corporation development of new vehicle releases in North America.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

1. Perform subjective and objective vehicle level steering system tuning

  • Tune vehicle steering to:
    • Program targets
    • Customer Requirements
    • Consider vehicle ride and handling performance characteristics

2. Perform benchmarking activities of competitor vehicle steering systems in North America

  • Equip vehicle for proper benchmarking activity
  • Conduct objective and subjective steering benchmarking test
  • Create benchmarking test reports
  • Provide and discuss reports to headquarters

3. Customer Support / North American Application support

  • Support customer with steering performance studies
  • Support steering product development activities
  • Support steering product performance improvement activities
  • Perform Engineering Order Testing in Proving Grounds (Static and Dynamic testing)
  • Plant production support
  • Supporting quality issues and coordinate with Headquarter

Experience Level:

  • 1-5 years of experience within Control Systems or Automotive

Education Requirement:

  • B.S Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Automotive) 

Required Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics and control systems
  • Basic software, electronics, vehicle communication knowledge, such as: CAN, OBD II, CAN FD, Ethernet, FlexRay, Etc.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's license with satisfactory driving record

Preferred Experience:

  • Development / Tuning Experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively with global partners, particularly Asia
  • CANape, CANoe, or CANFD experience
  • Steering system experience
  • Basic SW programming knowledge 

Language Requirements:

  • English
  • Korean (Preferred)

Travel Requirements:

  • Customer is located in Irvine, CA 
  • Will spend 5-10% of the time at Proving Grounds (Mileage and travel time compensated)
