Program Manager - Autonomous Research and Development Aug. 27, 2018


Mobis North America continues to grow its autonomous driving research and development team at its Plymouth Michigan MTCA site, and has need of an experienced project manager to lead research and development projects for autonomous driving and other intelligent vehicle technologies. The successful candidate will manage the schedules, purchasing, and reporting aspects of the projects, collaborating with peer project technical leaders who are responsible for the technical implementation aspects.

Key Responsibilities

1.       Provide project leadership for research project teams

a.       Identify, delegate, and track top level project tasks of project team members

b.      Provide single point of contact to management for status and reporting

c.       Formulate effective project plans to achieve desired results towards project goals

d.      Work with AE department heads to budget and plan project resources

e.      Coordinate team level decisions for unexpected challenges and change

2.       Execute research projects

f.        Collaborate with lead research engineer (technical lead) to deliver project objectives on time and within budget

g.       Interface between Korean HQ project tracking and MTCA AE teams

h.      Provide effective project leadership to guide and motivate team

i.         Create final project report and ensure necessary documentation is captured

3.       Develop expertise and knowledge in domain of Autonomy/Systems/Robotics

j.        Track regional intelligence and developments in field of expertise

k.       Engage in strategic regional activities (workshops, conferences, etc)

l.         Interact with other professionals/experts in the field

Collaborative Working Relationships

Collaborate with regional experts, associations, and agencies regarding autonomous, connected, and new ADAS technologies

Key Tasks

1. Provide project leadership for research project teams

2. Execute research projects on time and on budget

3. Support developing new AE project proposals

4. Grow personal knowledge related to autonomous driving systems

Experience Level

  • 5 - 10 years of engineering/management experience with:
  •  Minimum 3 years project management experience
  •   Advanced engineering and/or research and development experience
  •   Exposure to simulation and system analysis
  •   Experience leading software development projects a plus


Required: BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or Business Administration

Preferred: Masters in Engineering, Computer Science, or MBA, or PMP or comparable certification (Project Management Professional)

Additional Experiences

  • Leadership of research or advanced engineering projects
  • Contracting with external research partners/services
  • Automotive experience a plus
  • Autonomous vehicle or active safety technology development a plus

Required Skills

  •        Prior Project planning and execution experience
  •        Experience leading software projects
  •        Attention to detail and timing
  •        Ability to work with a global program team
  •        Exposure to robotics/mechatronics/controls/perception
  •        Good verbal and written communication skills (English)
  •        Competent with MS Excel, Project, Visio, Word, PowerPoint
  •        Self-motivated, organized and able to multitask across various project activities
  •        Ability to work in a fast paced work environment
  •        Ability to interface and act as liaison to customers and management

Travel Requirements
